GEEKOM took IFA 2025 by storm and unveiled what might very well be, not only the most powerful MINI PC to ever been produced, but the coolest as well.

Every year GEEKOM goes to IFA and tries to validate its innovative initiative through a KICKSTARTER, crowd funded, campaign.

At the time of this article, the KICKSTARTER page passed the 200K EUROS of pledged purchase, way beyond the initial 85K EUROS goal. The GEEKOM A9 MEGA min PC will be delivered towards the end of November 2025 to buyers.

Last year they had us all on the edge of our seats with the first water-cooled MINI PC, the MEGA MINI G1. This year the Shenzhen based tech company strikes again with the GEEKOM A9 MEGA!

Thanks to AMD’s new STRIX HALO combo of CPU and GPUs, the GEEKOM A9 MEGA has simply reset all expectation in terms of what you can get out of a mini PC, both in the context of gaming and production. And that is a MASSIVE understatement!!

 


DESGIN – Aluminium please!

 

The GEEKOM A9 MEGA reprise GEEKOM’s minimalist, all aluminum, signature design. It is noticeably larger than its siblings with a 171mm x 171mm x 71mm, for an acceptable 1.2 Kg.

Despite the bigger volume, the GEEKOM A9 MEGA can still claim that it holds in the palm of your hand.

CPU – AMD RYZEN AI MAX+ 395

Powered by what might very well be the most powerful RYZEN AI CPU to ever been released, AMD’s very own RYZEN AI MAX+ 395.

The ZEN 5 4nm processor feature 16 physical cores, subdivided in 32 threads. The base clock floors an impressive 3Ghz, and tops at a desktop class 5.1 GHz.

It features 16 PCIe 4.0 lanes which will provide 8 lanes for 2 PCIe 4.0 NVME connectors, and 8 for the front and back IO. The GPU being imbedded in the CPU,  we do not need additional lanes for its exploitation.

As shown above, the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 shows of what is the fastest single core performances in the market today, and is only 15% slower than a full fledge desktop CPU such as AMD’s fastest desktop CPU (single core) : the Ryzen 9 9900X!


GPU – AMD RADEON 8060S

The RYZEN AI MAX+ 395 comes with a massive RADEON 8060S integrated graphics engine which has nothing to envy to the desktop graded GPUs.

We have a massive 40 Computing Units, fed by 2,560 shader cores.  And since this is an RDNA 3.5 architectured engine it does feature all the AI abilities attached to the FSR4 upscaling and frame generating options it comes with.

But most importantly, in the A9 MEGA, the Radeon 8060S is fed by an obscene, unprecedented 96 GB worth of dedicated LPDDR5X memory. Now let this sink in.

We are talking about 96 GB of soldered memory. And do not be fooled by the DDR5 appellation. We are talking about SAMSUNG’s latest DRAM technology, which provides 25% more bandwidth than your classical DDR5 stick, and uses 25% less power.

In addition, the fact that the memory is directly soldered into the PCB reduced the CPU to memory latency by 99% when compared to a socket fed memory.

 

The result is about the most powerful GPU solution in its mobility form, which as you can see on the above 3DMARK benchmark, outperformed a RTX 5070 (laptop) by 4%.


NPU – The first able to run CHAT GPT off line and for free.

 

As part of its MAX+ 395 CPU package, the GEEKOM A9 MEGA also feature a 50 TOPS NPU which bring in a mosaic of AI fueled feature unique to this MIN PC.

Perhaps the most impressive of them is its ability to run OPEN AI latest gpt-oss-120B reasoning model. That’s OPEN AI most advanced contextualization engine which architecture, is also powering the latest CHAT GPT 5.0 AI bot.

And with the GEEKOM A9 MEGA, we are doing so offline and for free. Once CHAT GPT is installed on the A9 MEGA, you can ask it your usual questions, and AI will reply as usual, refreshing its repository database every time your A9 MEGA goes online.

And that, my friends, is the first tangible, useful and exciting usage of an NPU, I have seen so far.


RAM – LPDDR5X (SAMSUNG)

 

The GEEKOM A9 MEGA comes with a total of 128 GB LPDDR5X worth of Samsung of RAM. As we had seen earlier, 96 GB of those are decimated to the Radeon 8060S, leaving 32 GB of LPDDR5X to the RYZEN AI MAX+ 395.

And just as the GPU did, the CPU will heavily benefit from a soldered memory, feeding its cores faster than on any other MINI PC, laptop or desktop out there.

Most importantly, thanks to Samsing better power management, the RAM modules can run, in their quad channel presence, at an obscene 8,000 MTs.

Usually, and at best, on a MINI PC or laptop, the best you can hope is 5,600 MTs. Only on Desktop PCs could we have dreamed to get anywhere around these transfer speeds.

Worth noting, since the memory is soldered there is no way to remove or add RAM to the GEEKOM A9 MEGA mini PC, which is not really an issue since the RYZEN AI MAX+ 395 can not take anymore than 128 GB worth of RAM.


STORAGE

The GEEKOM A9 MEGA can support upto 2 PCie 4.0 enabled NVMEs for a total storage of upto 8 TB.

worth noting it comes pre-installed with a single 2TB PCIe 4.0 enabled NVME, meaning that it can swap data upto a blazing fast 64 Gb/s.


Wattage and computing power

All these specs are eye-watering and are the first ones I have seen which can erase borders between MINI PCs  and Desktops PCs. And that’s great. But this comes at a heat cost.

At full speed, the GEEKOM A9 MEGA mini PC can output 140 Watts TDP worth of heat! That’s more than double the heat foot-print seen on more commun MINI PCs, and equivalent laptops.

And as we all know heat, in such small form factors, is the number one enemy to lasting performances. How did GEEKOM tackled the thermal throttling hazard?


COOLING – ICEBLAST 5.0

 

One of the key innovation which allowed GEEKOM to install such a powerful processor without having to deal with thermal throttling is the 360 radial air intake placed below the GEEKOM A9 MEGA mini PC.

That very simple modification allows 8 times more air intake when compared to the side air intake seen on the GEEKOM A9 MAX.

The 2nd innovation here, is the newly designed cooling system ( baptized IceBlast 5.0 ) that GEEKOM has equipped the A9 MEGA with.

Instead of a single turbo fan, the A9 MEGA mini PC comes with 2 of them, explaining the larger 171mm x 171mm frame.

The air intake forces fresh air to pass through and harvest the heat from the hottest components ( NVMEs, CPU and RAM ) and is then quickly expelled through a large exhaust grill.

On this picture we can clearly see the 360 degrees air intake and the equally massive exhaust on the bottom model.

The USB 4.0 plugs are the big 2025 feature, both on ATX motherboards and MINI PCs alike. It can swap data upto an eye-watering 40 Gbs, charge a phone at 30W TDP or act as a DP 1.4 standard,

meaning that, in in addition of the existing 2 HDMI plugs, the GEEKOM A9 MEGA can support upto four 4K screen concomitantly (fancy word for “in the same time”).

GAMING

Without surprises, the GEEKOM A9 MINI PC is killing at about every available games out there.

Most importantly, the AI MAX+395 / Radeon 8060S combo outperforms, in many cases, a laptop with a dedicated NVIIDA RTX 4060 with about 20% less power footprint.

It is smooth, it is powerful and it is orgasmic! I have installed the most demanding and latest games out there and with the highest setting ( Ray Tracing included ) my 1K experience was exemplar.

In a production centric benchmarking, the AI MAX+395 / Radeon 8060S outperforms even more clearly the Ryzen 9 7945H / NVIDIA RTX 4060.

This is nice and good but I wanted to have some real-life, production graded examples:

I have tested the GEEKOM A9 MEGA MINI PC with the latest updated version of ADOBE PREMIERE PRO . A 9 min long, 1k (high bitrate) video, was rendered in about 1 minute. Obviously, we are in the high-end desktop performance territories.


Conclusion

The  GEEKOM A9 MEGA mini PC took me by surprise. It is not only the most powerful MINI PC ever produced, but the cooling innovation will benefit the entire industry and will help erasing borders between desktop and Mini PCs.

Its massive and unprecedented 96 GB of LPDDR5X RAM dedicated to its RADEON 8060S allows it compete against some of the most expensive and powerful desktop GPUs.

But most importantly, the confluence of different technologies, PCIe 4.0 NVMe, LPDDR5X, ZEN 5 and RDNA 3.5 architectures culminates into some of the most efficient piece of technology seen this year.

The A9 MEGA MINI PC computing power can indeed, and largely compete with current high-end desktop PCs, and, even with its higher $1,900 USD price tag, brings in a solid value proposition when compared to equivalently powerful desktop setups ( $3000+ USD).
