LAUNCH DATE : January 2024
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU family will be unveiled in January during CES 2024. The company will be presenting the cards during the event and we have also learned that the launch date for the lineup is also planned for January (though it could move based on NVIDIA’s decision).
THE NEW CARDS : RTX GeForce 4070 SUPER, RTX GeForce 4070 Ti SUPER, RTX GeForce 4080 SUPER
Now for the lineup, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU family will include three cards that have leaked over the last couple of weeks.
These include the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (unfortunately this naming scheme is confirmed), and the RTX 4070 SUPER. All three cards are based on the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace graphics architecture and feature a range of upgrades that mostly come in the form of better core configurations.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
SPECIFICATIONS
GPU: AD103-400 (PG139 SKU 355)
CORES: 10,240
TMUs: 320 TMUs
ROPs: 112
L2 cache: 64 MB
BUS: 256-bit
RAM: 16 GB DDR6X
TGP: 320W
MSRP: $1199
PERFORMANCES
In terms of performance, the graphics card is expected to be 3-5% faster than the RTX 4080 Non-SUPER which isn’t a huge gain but custom models will deliver close to 10% performance boosts. NVIDIA hasn’t decided on the pricing of the SUPER series lineup yet but this small performance boost should help the card be faster than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and if it comes at anything around $1000-$1100 US, then that ends up being very competitive.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER
SPECIFICATIONS
GPU: AD103-275 / AD102-175 GPU SKUs (PG141 SKU 323). Both will be available
CORES: 8,448
TMUs: TBD
ROPs: TBD
L2 cache: 48 MB
BUS: 256-bit
RAM: 16 GB DDR6X
TGP: 285W
MSRP: $799
PERFORMANCES
For performance, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB GPU will offer an average 15% boost in performance over the Non-SUPER variant and should compete well against the Radeon RX 7900 XT at a possible lower price point.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
SPECIFICATIONS
GPU: AD104-350 or AD103-175 SKU (PG141 SKU 335)
CORES: 7,168
TMUs: TBD
ROPs: TBD
L2 cache: 48 MB
BUS: 192-bit
RAM: 12 GB DDR6X
TGP: 220W ( 20W > RTX 4070 )
MSRP: $599
PERFORMANCES
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER should end up being around 14% faster than the RTX 4070 Non-SUPER. The graphics card will also get the new CEM 5.1 Gen5 power connector. The existing RTX 4070 graphics cards either come with an 8-pin connector or a 12-pin power connector (supplied with an adapter).
- RTX 4080 SUPER vs RTX 4080: +3-5% Faster On Average
- RTX 4070 Ti SUPER vs RTX 4070 Ti: +15% Faster On Average
- RTX 4070 SUPER vs RTX 4070: +14% Faster On Average
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 SUPER – What We Know So Far
We have also come to know that there were indeed plans for a GeForce RTX 4090 SUPER though those were dropped due to the recent sanctions which limit the release of GPUs hitting over 4800 TOPs in China and other regions. Currently, there are no plans to do a RTX 4090 SUPER or Ti GPU but that might change if restrictions soften up in the coming year (which seems unlikely at the moment).
Once again, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 SUPER GPU family is going to be unveiled at CES 2024 & launch is “expected” in the same month. Prices have not been confirmed to any retailer or partner and don’t expect them to be finalized until the very last minute.
