The Threadripper Build

I am replacing my editing machine. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a very powerful and worthy machine. And not that old really. Less than a year old. But my 1,200.00 dollars CPU has gone through the toughest year a CPU can have. AMD went at it, over and over again. And so, it is time to upgrade to a something a bit younger (sorry honey).

Hence, I am starting a new build serie : The Threadripper Build.

Let’s talk a little about the “why” of these components. This computer is a little different from the previous ones in the sense that I will be using it 12 hours a day and will throw at it computing-heavy tasks (video editing, rendering, gaming, etc…). Before going about shopping and spending my hard-earned cash, I did set a few un-variables that had to be met.

This computer should :

  1. be as silent as possible (for audio recording and my sanity)
  2.  be as powerful as possible
  3. be as future proof as possible (24 months shelf life)
  4. all the above and be good looking 🙂

Obviously, the first condition let very little doubt on which case brand I’d go for. BeQuiet! The Dark Base Pro 900 is the only Full Tower on the market, which tried to marry soundproofing and looks (massive tempered glass side panel). Of course, it comes with a set of challenges which you can review by reading or watching its full review. But, overall, it is the only viable option for us and for a decent size custom water cooling option.

As for the processor goes, I usually go for a safe value: Intel Processors. But, unlike any other years, 2017 have seen the collision of the two mastodonts of nanochips. And its effects are still rippling through our space-time computing continuum. In June of 2017, AMD released its Zen architecture, and the all-industry witnessed an over-night new order. I am not going to go in an endless speech about why the Threadripper is the best suit for me, but let’s just say that it’s both cheaper and better than anything Intel has on the market for a comparable price line.

So yeah.. Threadripper guys… that’s where I am putting my money for the foreseeable future.

As cooling goes, and because I make no sense, I am going for a custom water cooling solution. As usual, I am sticking with EKWB.
