EARLY PRICING & AVAILIBILITY
Despite a reassuring official MSRP set at 549 USD and 599 USD (exc. VAT) for the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT respectively, early leaks show an all different reality.
MicroCenter, the US physical PC component leader in the US, will be listing the RX 5070 at 649 USD and the RX 9070 XT at 699 USD. A hundred dollar immediate price inflation upon launch.
The retail price increase of AMD’s RX 9070 (XT) new cards is a direct consequence of NVIDIA’s shortage and systemic stock failing. Retailers will try to capitalize on the shortage of NVIDIA’s new generation PCIe 5.0 graphics cards, and try to replace them with AMD’s incoming cards, which despite not being as performant, have a better availability.
The cards will be available for online order and physical pick-up in the US on the 6th of March and are already available for pre-order on the Chinese market.
IS IT WORTH IT?
The RX 9070 XT performances are no where near NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti. In general and as covered a couple days ago, the RX 9070 XT shows 22% less FPS than its NVIDIA’s natural competition. But it will be available and despite the inflated price, remains well below the RTX 5070 Ti real-life pricing which is anywhere between 900 to the-sky-is-the-limit USD.
In short AMD, despite a subpar product, is positioned to heavily benefit from NVIDIA’s inability to control its pricing, card availability and manufacturing process (several specs inconsistency have been plaguing the RTX 5000 launch).
